Shower water filters have become very popular in the recent years. There are still many people that are skeptical about the need for shower filtration. Here are a few reasons why shower filters are beneficial:
1. Your skin is very sensitive to what comes in contact with it. Skin breathes and absorbs most everything that it comes into contact with. Chlorine, ammonia, and other chemicals contained in tap water enter the skin through skin absorption. The trouble with that is that there is no system of filtration when chemicals enter through your skin. Whatever enters through the skin will go into your bloodstream. Over time, harmful chemicals can possibly have damaging effects on the body.
2. Chlorine dries the skin. Many people walk around with dry and itchy skin. Lots of money is spend on lotions and creams to help minimize dry skin damage. By simply removing the chlorine from your shower water, you can have a huge impact on the quality of your skin.
3. Chlorine dries and damages hair. Just like swimming in a pool everyday, chlorine will have the same effect from the shower as it does from a pool. When you remove the chlorine, your hair can naturally keep its moisture and stay softer and shinier.
4. Protect your family. Filtering your shower water is the easiest and most cost effective ways of protecting your family from chemicals and contaminants. Shower filtration offers lots of health benefits and protection, especially for infants or the elderly.
5. Peace of mind. Why would any body take the risk of having chemicals and contaminants in their water. Once your water arrives at your home, the chlorine is no longer needed to kill viruses and bacteria. Unfortunetaly, the water treatment plant can't do that for you, but you can do it for your self.
Good luck and good health.

Top 5 Reasons to filter your tap water.
Tap water filtration is a very hot topic for health minded individuals. Some people are still on the fence about whether water filtration is necessary or not. Here are the top 5 reasons tap water should be filtered.
1. How old are the pipes that bring you your water? In many cases, people never see the plumbing that brings them their water. These systems were put in place many years ago and they were never intended to be sterile environments. In many cases, these systems corrode and build up with different mineral deposits. As your water goes through miles of old plumbing, it tends to pick up some of the impurities and contaminants along the way.
2. Water treatment plants must put chlorine in the water to disinfect it. This means that your tap water will always have chemicals in it for disinfection purposes. These chemicals are very important for protecting you from viruses and bacteria. Once the water gets to your tap, those chemicals are no longer necessary.
3. Pure water is a man made product, not naturally occurring. There is no such thing as pure water in the environment, especially in heavily populated areas such as big cities or very condensed states. All kinds of runoff, pollution, and contaminants enter our water supplies. The water treatment facilities are not designed to remove every type of contaminant that goes through it. Many contaminants are also not regulated and can flow in our drinking water at possibly unsafe levels.
4. Your body is 70% water. You are what you eat, and DRINK! Many people read the labels on everything that they purchase at the grocery store. They check for fat content, calories, sodium, sugar, and anything else of concern. When it comes to water, many people just drink it without knowing the source or quality. Water can hold just about anything in it and still maintain its clarity.
5. Why take the risk? One of the easiest ways to improve your health and quality of life is to filter your water. If 70% of your body is maintained with clean water, you only have to worry about the other 30%. Filtering your shower water also eliminates many chemicals and contaminants that you would absorb through skin absorption and inhalation.

How much chlorine is in my water?
If you receive your water from a water treatment plant, you have either chlorine, or chloramines in your water. These chemicals are used to prevent viruses and bacteria in your water. Some states with warmer water use more chlorine than others because viruses and bacteria thrive in warmer waters. One determining factor to chlorine volume is the proximity of your water treatment plant. There is no way that the water treatment facility can give each home the exact amount of chlorine to kill viruses, and not be potentially harmful to you. All of the chlorine is injected in one single source, so the closer you live to the plant, the higher the dosage of chemicals you will receive. Get yourself a chlorine test kit at any pool supply store and test your tap water. The darker the test gets, the more chlorine there is. If you have more chlorine than you are comfortable with, consider installing a drinking water filter and a shower water filter for your water. These are two easy and inexpensive ways to filter large quantities of water at a minimal cost per gallon. Always do your research when it comes to the quality of water where you live. Good luck.

5 Tips to find out what is in your local water.
Tap water comes from many different sources all over the country.
It is always a good idea to find out where your water comes from. Here are some ways to find out:1. A great resource for water quality information is the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA regulates the water quality in the U.S.. You can get pretty good local information on the link below. It is real easy to follow. Check it out.
EPA.GOV State Water Link
2. Get your Consumer Confidence Report about your local water. This is also an EPA link that is very useful when researching local water quality.
EPA.GOV Where you live
3. Visit the National Water Quality Database. They offer very detailed information on many of the Nation's water supplies. This is a great site, even though the information can get pretty complex.
EWG.ORG Your Water
4 Research your local newspaper online for articles of water quality in your area. You can usually find a few articles about pollution, new standards, violations, or maybe some good news as well.
5. Do your home work on your water so that you can determine if water filtration is something you need. Drinking water filters and shower water filters are 2 very economical ways of cleaning up alot of water for very little investment.

3 tips to determine if a shower filter is right for you.
There are many tap water quality issues going on all over the world.
Here are some tips to determine whether shower filtration is right for you:1. Can you smell chlorine in your shower water? If you can smell the chlorine, than you might be getting a very high amount of disinfectants in your water from your water treatment plant. These chemicals can be absorbed through the skin and inhaled during showering.
2. Does the shower water give you dry skin? Dry skin in the shower can come from a few sources such as calcium in the water and chlorine. Shower water filters are a good way to ensure that excess chlorine is removed from your tap water, as well as other harmful chemicals.
3. Do you live close to the water treatment plant? If you do, you probably get a higher dosage of chlorine in your water due to your proximity to the plant. Since the water treatment company can't just give everybody just enough chlorine to disinfect the water, the closer you live, the more you get.
I hope these tips were helpful. Please comment if you have any more questions concerning shower water filters

5 easy tips for filtering impurities in municipal tap water.
There are many questions when it comes to filtering tap water.
Here are some tips that should come in handy:1. Select a filter depending on your living arrangements. Do you live in a condo or a home? Do you rent or own? How many bathrooms do you have? If you own your own home and you have more than 2 bathrooms, it maybe more cost effective to filter the water for the entire house, instead of putting filters in each bath, and one in the kitchen. If your rent a condo or live in one, you are better off getting a counter top filter for your drinking water in the kitchen and one filter for your shower.
2. How many people live in the home can determine adequate filtration. Are you just one person, or is it a family of 4 with 2 pets? If you have a very small family, 1-2 persons in the home, a counter top filter, or possibly a pitcher filter would be ideal. For larger families, a counter top filter of under sink filter would be ideal for drinking, cooking, ice cubes etc.
3. How much time do you spend at home is important when choosing a proper filtration system. Do you cook alot, go out to dinner mostly, hardly ever home due to travel? If you do not spend much time at home, a simple counter top filter would probably do the trick, maybe a pitcher filter if you really are never home. The more time you spend at home, the more water you consume there. Counter top filters tend to be the most cost effective way to filter water in large amounts.
4. Do you smell alot of chlorine in the shower water? Most tap water sources are treated with chlorine, or chloramines. These chemicals are introduced into the tap water supply to prevent viruses and bacteria from entering your body. The side effect is that you ingest a lot of chemicals through drinking and skin absorption in the shower. If you smell a lot of chlorine in your water, it is probably best that you use a shower water filter as well as a drinking water filter for drinking and cooking.
5. What are the ages of the persons in the home? People have different immune systems. Older persons and infants aren't as capable of dealing with the chemicals and contaminants in tap water as compared to a fit young person. Immuno-compromised persons, such as persons with cancer, or kidney issues, should always filter at least their drinking and cooking water. All people would benefit from drinking filtered water, especially those mentioned above. Drinking water filters are a very inexpensive way to treat large amounts of water for drinking, cooking, icecubes, etc.

Bottled water, pouring your money away.
I will openly admit that I purchased bottled water for many years.
My tap water tasted terrible so I started to buy bottles without really thinking about what I was doing. Years later, reports of bottled water started surfacing about quality, and potential dangers lurking in the bottles. I was really intrigued by the problem and I found a lot of information that was not pleasant. Many of the bottles being sold today are actually no better than the water that comes out of your tap. I just thought that if it tasted better, than it was better. Bottled water, turns out is actually monitored by the FDA and not the EPA, which governs tap water quality. The EPA is much stricter on its health and legal limits of contaminants than the FDA. The main criteria for bottling water is that it needs to be equal to tap water, but it doesn't have to be better. Besides all of the concerns with the plastic and where the actual water comes from, two other big factors are cost to the consumer and to the environment. I looked into how much I was spending on bottled water in the past and it turns out that I was spending about $40 a month just for drinking water, not for cooking, ice, or anything else. I also estimated that I was throwing away over 130 bottles a month right into the trash! It really made me think of how one person can have such a HUGE impact on the environment. For many years now I have been filtering my tap water, both in the kitchen and in the shower. I went from spending almost $500 a year on bottled water to spending just under $90 for filters annually. I use my drinking water filter for cooking and my ice cubes as well. Shower water will be discussed in the future(whole other topic!)AquasanaH2O.com
Drugs in our water.
Tap water issues seem to be coming up more and more nowadays.
Pharmaceuticals found in municipal tap water supplies is the latest news to come out. It turns out that our bodies do not absorb all of the medication when people take them. Those medicines are then excreted from the body and enter the sewage system. That water is recycled and sent out once again as "Tap Water" that you use in your home for cooking, drinking, and everything else. Unfortunetly, the municipal water treatment facilities are not equipped to handle many of the impurites and contaminants that end up in our water supplies. Read your local water quality report, which you can find on EPA.gov, to see what the concerns are in your area. Here in Florida, chlorine and ammonia, which are used to disinfect the water, are at levels that warrant concern. I recommend that everybody look into water filtration for their homes. It is too risky nowadays to not research your water quality and see if steps need to be taken to clean it up. Drinking water filters and shower water filters are two very simple and cost effective ways to clean up your water.AquasanaH2O.com
